There’s a reason why James Cameron is called a visionary director and he is worthy of the Oscars that he has won over a successful career in Hollywood. Chatting with fellow director Denis Villeneuve, who’s known for directingDuneandDune: Part Two,Cameron had a great chat with the director.

Talking about how he had to shoot a scene involving children first, James Cameron revealed that he did not want to use CGI to de-age these kids. As per the director, he had filmed 3Avatarmovies together while filming with kids so that they don’t have to reshoot when they get older and change their appearances!

During a chat in Variety’sDirectors on Directors,James Cameron and Denis Villeneuve sat down and talked about their respective movies,AvatarandDune.With Villeneuve being a much younger director than Cameron, he had a great discussion about how different their styles were.

During the chat, James Cameron mentioned that hisAvatarfranchise was going smoothly and that he had shot most of the live-action sequences. DuringVariety‘s chat, Cameron dove head-first into using visual effects in his films and the shooting of live-action that had to be done.
“Two is kind of, you know, it’s fully in the can and you know, we have a working cut that we’re filling in the visual effects within. I feel pretty confident with that film. Uh [Avatar] 3 is still a bit shadowy. It’s way too long and I haven’t really turned my energy into a disciplined cutting process”.

He further continued,
“I know I’ve got it. I know I’ve got the performances and that’s the important thing. I’ve done all the capturing and I’ve done all the…most of the live-action shooting. I still owe a little bit on some of the adult characters.

As the interview progressed,James Cameronjoked that he had to shoot the scenes involving kids first because they might grow beards if Cameron were to return after 3-4 years for another Avatar film.

As the interview progressed, Cameron let it slip that he had already shot most of the live-action scenes involving children first. Talking inVariety’sDirectors on Directors,theTitanicdirector stated that shooting the scenes involving the kids was his number one priority.
“Because we were more concerned with the kids aging out. You got to get busy before they uh, they grow a beard, right?”
Denis Villeneuve joked“I must say, you don’t make things easy on yourself”due to the overtly convoluted plan of theTerminatordirector. Cameron’s 2022 film,Avatar: The Way of Waterearned a whopping $2 billion at the global box office. With a high rating and the third part on the way,Avatar: The Way of Wateris currently available to stream on Disney+.
