Marvel and DC no longer have a stranglehold on the superhero market like they once had since shows likeThe BoysandInvincibleentered the picture, becoming immense hits. And considering the last few years haven’t been the smoothest for the Industry giants, another independent superhero project, involving Jamie Foxx, has fans excited.

This project revolves around the renowned comic-book character of Spawn, who appears in the comic book by the same name and is the longest-running independent comic book series of all time. But sadly the recent updates on the movie’s production aren’t great, as despite being close to the finish line, the project is on hold following the ongoing strike.

The Script ofSpawnWas Almost Done Before the Strike
BeforeBatman Beginsand Sam Raimi’sSpider-Manbrought superheroes to the forefront, back in 1997,Spawndid get an adaptation. But considering that Hollywood was hostile toward making Superhero products R-rated at the time, this resulted in a toned-down version of the character, which didn’t do justice to the source material. However, in the last two decades, things have drastically changed thanks to films likeLogan,Deadpool, andJoker, and now Todd McFarlane, Spawn’s creator, is set to bring a more truthful adaptation of the beloved character.
Even though everything surroundingSpawnwas looking great, as they also gotJamie Foxxon board to play the titular character, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike happened. And while McFarlane did aim to give a notable update to fans at New York Comic-Con this summer, as the writers were 30 pages away from finishing the script, the Writers’ strike resulted in the project being put on hold.

Speaking toComicbook.com, he said:
“We were in the middle of writing the script and then the writers strike came,” said McFarlane. “So that basically came to a screeching halt, if you will. But they were pretty far along in it, so I’m assuming that they’ve given it a lot of thought during the strike. They know what they’re going to write, the last 30 pages, which is all they need to finish.”
But despite the unfortunate circumstances, McFarlane is optimistic that as soon as the WGA and AMPTP reach an agreement, it won’t be too long before the writers will be done with the script.
