GitHub annually releases the list of top open source projects that are live on the website. Once again, the code repository is back with the list of projects that received the highest number of unique contributors between June 28, 2025 and July 16, 2025.
VS Code,React, andTensorflowwere on the top ofGitHub’s listof open source projects by contributor count. Microsoft dominated the list with two projects onVisual Studio CodeandMicrosoft Azure, each receiving commits from 19k and 7k contributors.
On the other hand, Facebook’s framework for building native apps withReactsecured the second position on the list with 10k unique contributors.
The latest addition to the list this year are projects that manage containerized applications, share Azure documentation, and consolidate TypeScript type definitions such asKubernetes,Azure Docs, andDefinitelyTyped.
