What is interesting though, is the fact that the two are playing the same character, at different points in his life, 50 years apart. Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell Have Worked Together in the Past
During an interview withET,Wyatt Russellwent into great detail about what his motivations were for starring, not only with his father in a project, but they playing the same character. It is essential to note that this has happened before, with him portraying a younger version of Kurt Russell in the 1998 film,Soldier,however, the actor was too young and far too early in his career for it to hold much significance.
The two have also worked together in a franchise, with both playing characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. TheTombstoneactor played the role of Ego, the father of Starlord inThe Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, whereas theBlack Mirroractor played the role of John Walker, the replacement of Steve Rogers as Captain America inThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, this would not be the same experience as the two working onMonarch: Legacy of Monstersas these were completely different projects and they never shared the screen together.

Wyatt Russell Liked the Idea of Him and His Father Playing the Same Person
Wyatt Russell revealed toETthat in the past, he and his father, Kurt Russell, have been asked multiple times to feature in the same project. This was, however, under the context that they would play characters who are related in some way, usually being father and son. This wasn’t as interesting to them, so they ended up passing on these opportunities.
“We have been asked to be in the same movie, usually as father and son, but the idea of playing the same person had an artistic element to it that drew us to it,”
Things were a lot different when it came toMonarch: Legacy of Monsters.The reason for this was the fact that they would not be related in any way, rather, playing the same person, who was at different points in his life. As the actor put it, he loved the artistic elements that went into playing a character such as this, considering he had to make sure that he was consistent throughout. He added that this was the aspect of this project that specifically encouraged him to play the character of Lee Shaw.
