Diane Lane Cried When She WatchedSaturday Night Fever
Diane Lanegave an interview toThe Guardian, where she talked about the first time she watchedSaturday Night Fever. The actress explained that this was a life-changing moment for her as a young woman who was going through a lot of instability and changes in her life. She elaborated on this, stating that she lost her mind when she watched the film, having an external emotional reaction to it.
“When Saturday Night Fever came out, I lost my mind. I remember wailing into a parking meter when I came out of the cinema. That’s how out of my mind I was. I was 13, hormones were a new thing for me, and I finally had a place to put them. I thought it was the coolest, truest indictment of the desperation to be cool. And the vulnerability of somebody who’s so desperate to be cool struck a chord and touched me very deeply.”

She then went on to recall this exact moment, stating that through this film, she was able to find an outlet for a lot of feelings that she did know what to do. She added the story really resonated with the message that the film was trying to portray which is the internal battles that someone goes through in regards to their personal image and the way they want to be perceived by the people around them.

She elaborated on this, stating that he was a perfect person for this role, and was glad that the casting directors went for him.
“John Travolta so beautifully portrayed that role. It was a bullseye of casting perfection in such a decade-defining blockbuster film. I imagine it was hard to get over that, in terms of: “I’d like to play other parts, please.” I’m always happy when Travolta is afforded opportunities to play diverse roles because he was so indelibly stamped on that film.”

She then went on to think about how this role may have had an impact on Travolta’s professional life. She imagined that it would be very difficult to be cast into something different from his work inSaturday Night Fever. She then went on to state that she is glad that the actor was able to break out of this and be able to play the sheer magnitude of diverse characters that he has played throughout his career.
