The fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can unanimously agree on one thing and one thing only, the ever-expanding multiverse of madness did Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow dirty. It is maddening for how-long the character’s story got absolutely obliterated among the mighty Avengers. And when Black Widow finally got her own much-awaited film, it failed to live up to its hype because of the sheer amount of time people had to wait. Thus, when the actress hinted that she is done with the superhero business for good, nobody blamed her. Soon after that, the legend Anthony Hopkins also followed her lead and stated how pointless portraying Odin on screen sometimes made him feel.

Anthony Hopkins as Odin

Anthony Hopkins finds his role in the MCU boring

When the two-time Academy Award-winning actor,Anthony Hopkinsfirst joined the MCU, he stamped his script as N.A.R. (no acting required) after the first read. After having an elaborate career spanning over more than six decades, the 83-year-old has a way with his craft, that no one else does. Thus, when the opportunity of portraying Odin came about, he had already given up for quite some time. Hence, it renewed his sense of hope. The actor states, besides the money, the Marvel movies, are a source to stay relatable for many actors. Thus, even a pointless role like Odin helped him stay afloat in a time he deemed difficult. In an interview with The New Yorker, Hopkins stated,

“They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me. Sit on the throne; shout a bit. If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.”

Why Scarlett Johanson left the MCU for good?

After Hopkins stated the obvious about the MCU, fans are looking back at a character that suffered somewhat of a similar fate as Odin.Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow was kept hidden from the spotlight for the longest time, the most she did was lurk in the background to be able to be at the service of the Avenger at all times. Despite being a part of the original Avengers squad, she remained a supporting character. Thus after her death, many were riled up as she did not even receive a proper send-off.

Besides facing sexist remarks about how being a superhero is only about the wardrobe in interviews, she also had to sue Disney for equal pay. While speaking with a fellow Marvel star, Gwyneth Paltrow, she stated,

Thus, Johansson is done with Natasha Romanoff for good. As the phases keep on changing, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe further dives into a multiverse of madness, people will always remember the OGs that started it all.
