While recent years haven’t been kind to horror flicks, with most failing to do something innovative with the genre, fortunately, this wasn’t the case forScream. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, the last two entries, starring Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera at the forefront, have rekindled the franchise, withScream 6being deemed as the best since the original.

But even though it seemed things couldn’t go wrong for the IP moving forward, the main duo of the last two entries are now out from the 7th part, leading to the creators starting from scratch.

Scream 7Is Starting From Scratch per Reports
WithJenna Ortegaout of the mix and Melissa Barrera being fired following her comments on the Israel-Hamas war,Scream 7is now going through a full creative reboot.Varietyreported writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are set to craft a new script, and producers are reportedly keen on bringing back the original stars of the series, Campbell and Courteney Cox.
Neve Campbell, who appeared in 2022’sScream, didn’t reprise her part in the sequel following salary disputes, and it’ll be interesting to see if she does end up reprising her role of Sidney Prescott in the next one.

And even though reports of the production getting back to square following the exit of Barrera and Jenna Ortega have fans worried, following the writers’ previous work, it’s reasonable to be optimistic.

Jenna Ortega’s Commitments to Other Projects Drove Her Out FromScream 7
Although the news of the actors being axed fromScream 7came as a bombshell to fans, Jenna Ortega’s exit from the franchise has nothing to do with her costar. While Barrera was fired following her stanches on the Israel-Hamas war, with Spyglass issuing astatement:“We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form”, Ortega’s exit had to do with schedule conflicts.
Following her commitments to Tim Burton’sBeetlejuice 2and the second season ofWednesday, which will kickstart filming in April of next year, it’s reasonable why she’ll not be inScream 7.

But keeping in mind the writers succeeded in rejuvenating the horror IP with 2022’sScreamand its sequel, fans will hope the duo can once again hit it out of the park with their new script for the 7th one.
