Spider-Manis one of the most popular franchises of all time, whether it was Sam Raimi’s original trilogy or Tom Holland starrer movies. While both Tobey Maguire and Holland have been amazing web slingers in their unique ways, many Marvel fans would name Andrew Garfield their favorite Spider-Man.

However, Marvel head Kevin Feige wasn’t a big fan of Garfield’s portrayal but rather found his acting emotionally inconsistent. Furthermore, the Sony reboot’s Spider-Man origin story felt too far-fetched, which eventually made Marvel propose the idea of taking the friendly neighborhood web-slinger back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, Marvel’s new book, is full of amazing secrets and revelations. One of the chapters focused on Spider-Man and Spider-verse and detailed the entire story of how the web-slinger actually ended up with Sony and how it made its eventual return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

AfterSam Raimidropped from a fourthSpider-Manmovie, Sony had the brilliant idea to reboot the entire mythos and haveAndrew Garfieldas Peter Parker. While the movie was a success, it still earned a lot less than the original trilogy. Similarly,The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was a disappointment as well.
While Marvel wasn’t exactly directly involved with the movies, the executive would often give their suggestions and reviews. After the second movie was released,Kevin Feigeexpressed that he wasn’t all too happy with how Sony had adopted the ‘special blood’ origin and expressed his concerns regarding Garfield’s portrayal,

“We’re distracted by the idea that Peter became Spider-Man b/c of is father’s blood—all this special back story with his superscientist dad fights with the idea that Peter is a normal kid from Queens who becomes the greatest super-hero in the world.”
Even Sony executive Amy Pascal was disturbed by the movie as she revealed in an email to Doug Belgrad.

Even Sony Was Not Happy With Andrew Garfield’sSpider-ManMovies
After Kevin Feige and other Marvel executives expressed their concern regarding the Sony-spearheaded Andrew Garfield starrerThe Amazing Spider-Manmovies,Amy Pascalalso expressed her concerns regarding the series.
In an email sent to Doug Belgrad, the resident of Sony Pictures, she wrote just months before the sequel’s release (viaMCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios),
“Uneven, schizo tone . . . weird, disjointed, no one single great set piece because action is just big and not storytelling, not funny . . . if I’m really honest, wrong director and wrong casting. We will almost get away with it and we can never go back.”
And they almost got away with it for the movie ended up earning just $709 million, a significantly less number than the projected score of $865 million. And so after much hustle and issues and differences, the popular comic book hero eventually ended up making its much-wanted MCU debut.
The Amazing Spider-Manmovies can be streamed on Disney+.
