A plethora of actors have had the honor to don the cape of The Dark Knight, but among all of them, Christian Bale remains Morgan Freeman’s favorite. The Shawshank Redemptionstar played the role of Lucius Fox in Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed trilogy and does an excellent job of playing Batman’s ally, serving a substantial role in the vigilante’s crimefighting journey.

Although the mantle was later passed on to Ben Affleck, who became DCEU’s Batman, Morgan Freeman wasn’t sure if Affleck would be able to top his costar’s performance.

Ben Affleck as Batman

Morgan Freeman believed Ben Affleck won’t be able to top Christian Bale’s Batman

Among all the amazing aspects that push Nolan’sThe Dark Knighttrilogy to the top,Christian Baleserves as the biggest factor, as the actor’s determination to his characters is second to none. As a result, Bale was able to nail his performance as Batman and embodied the character of Bruce Wayne. So it’s reasonable to see why Freeman felt that Bale can’t be topped by DCEU’s Batman. Even though Morgan Freeman wished Ben Affleck luck for the iconic role, he was assured that Zack Snyder’sBVS, including Affleck and Henry Cavill, won’t surpass Bale’sTDK. He stated,

“You know, I’m happy for Ben [Affleck], but I don’t know how that’s gonna work. Because the Dark Knight was almost ‘it.’ Pretty much it. Did you see Batman Begins? I don’t think you can beat that.”

Andy Muschietti

But unlike Morgan Freeman, Christian Bale shared a different perspective about the matter, as he believed Ben Affleck will succeed in bringing his own spin to the character. When asked who is the best Batman, the actor brushed off the debate by claiming that it’s subjective.

Like Bale, nowBen Affleckis also set to say his goodbyes to Batman. But despite his minimal presence in Andy Muschietti’sThe Flash, Affleck does a great job in the role of the caped crusader for one last time, as the mantle is now ready to be passed on to another actor. And with the new DCU on the roll, Andy Muschietti is now officially confirmed to craft the DCU’s iteration of Batman in the upcomingThe Brave and the Bold, thanks to his brilliance onThe Flash.Reflecting on the situation, the DC heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran explained,

“We saw ‘The Flash’ even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. So, when it came time to find a director for ‘The Brave and the Bold’, there was really only one choice,”
