Relationships are tough on their own. But a relationship with a Hollywood star like Michael B. Jordan is even harder to maintain. For the role of Adonis Creed inCreed III,Jordan, and co-star Tessa Thomspon took couples therapy sessions to understand their characters better.

After what appeared to be a tough year for theBlack Pantheractor, his girlfriend Lori Harvey announced their breakup in the June of 2022. Following his role as Adonis Creed in theCreedfranchise, it surely must have been hard for Michael B. Jordan to take these couples therapy sessions with co-star Tessa Thompson.

When Michael B. Jordan Had To Take Couples Therapy

After his breakup with girlfriend Lori Harvey, theJust Mercyactor devoted his passion to finishing the magnum opusCreed III.Having starred as the character of Adonis Creed over the course of 9 years in 3 movies, Michael B. Jordan shared the screen with Tessa Thompson throughout the franchise.

In an interview, theThor: Ragnarokactress revealed that to mentally prepare for the role of their characters, the duo of actors went through couples therapy sessions. While talking to Refinery29, Thompson revealed that due to the years spent together on set, they both knew each other quite well to have a couples therapy session.

“The line sometimes between character and us get blurred because we bring so much of what we’re exploring personally to the characters in general. So funnily, it was the first time … I’m probably saying too much. I’ll say it was an early experience in couples therapy for us both [personally], but it was as these characters, which is very weird”

TheMen in Black: Internationalactress continued,

“Since we’ve been making these movies for eight, nine years, we’ve seen each other through various stages in our own romantic things. So we know stuff about each other’s lives. We shared and talked about it. So therapy ended up starting at work and getting more personal.”

Tessa Thompson revealed that the therapy sessions indeed helped them withCreed IIIand how the storyline also included a heavy usage of parenting.

What are the themes that you see? What are the things they might be up against? What might be their impediments to happiness or success as a couple? That was really fascinating also to hear from her and bring that into the stew.”

With the movie currently standing strong at a rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.4/10 on IMDB,Creed IIIis currently screening in theaters worldwide for people to see.
