When we talk about exceptional yet relatively unpopular film stars in the industry, the name of actress Kate Winslet is sure to pop up. And although she may love to keep her life to herself without disclosing more than necessary, everyone who has seen even one of her film performances will substantiate her as one of the most phenomenal talents in the business.

Kate Winslet

So far, her image in front of the world has been nothing but immaculate as well as that of a woman possessing a strong will, but that hasn’t stopped controversies from surrounding her in Hollywood. In fact, one of her controversies which involved her Oscar win went unnoticed, when peculiarly, a similar incident involving actress Brie Lasron was heavily publicized.

Kat Winslet Refused To Thank Harvey Weinstein After Her Oscar Win

The incident in question that involved MCU starBrie Larsondates back to 2017 when she was the award presenter for the Best Actor award that was won by Casey Affleck for his phenomenal performance in the filmManchester By The Sea.Here, while everyone was giving the star a standing ovation, the actress decided to keep her hands firmly by her side. This controversy was later clarified by the star herself when she revealed that she disregarded Affleck for the s*xual misconduct charges that he was facing at the time of his win.

But while this was a very controversial topic at the time, almost a decade back,Kate Winsletalso stood up for a similar cause when she straight-up refused to credit her Academy Award win in the Best Actress category to Harvey Weinstein, the man who had funded her 2009 filmThe Readerthrough his company. Since the producer was infamous for all the sexual misconduct he had committed during his dark reign over the industry, Winslet straight-up refused to acknowledge him in her acceptance speech. In a past interview, theTitanicstar said:

“That was deliberate. That was absolutely deliberate, I remember being told. ‘Make sure you thank Harvey if you win.’ And I remember turning around and saying, ‘No I won’t. No I won’t.’ And it was nothing to do with not being grateful. If people aren’t well-behaved, why would I thank him? The fact that I’m never going to have to deal withHarvey Weinsteinagain as long as I live is one of the best things that’s ever happened and I’m sure the feeling is universal,”

Therefore, with such an act of defiance against the wrong, she stood her ground, which helped her receive newfound respect from her fans as well as the public.
