John CenaandAmy Schumer’s characters were in an on-and-off casual relationship and the wrestler-turned-actor was on screen for a total of three scenes and only at the beginning of the film. Regardless of minimal screen time, Cena bagged a hefty check for his role. According to Buzzfeed, Cena made a whopping $2.5 million for his three scenes. Now that’s certainly no less than impressive!

Keeping the fact that Cena wasn’t in the film for long aside, he really loved being a part ofTrainwreck.Talking to ScreenRant, Cena recalled what it was like going from television to the big screen. He also stated that working with his co-workers meant laughing all day.
“I’ve been very much looking to do a comedy for quite some time. When you’re a WWE superstar you’re kind of stuck in the television world, and that’s where I was spending most of my time. I was approached to audition for Trainwreck, but it wasn’t a sure shot though. Then I got asked back to do a table read with Amy and Judd and got cast in the movie from there…It’s a fun atmosphere to be a part of, this project especially. Working with Amy and Judd [Apatow] was fantastic and I would clock in and just laugh the whole day.”

It sure looks like Cena had a great time on the sets ofTrainwreck. However, the above-mentioned awkward scene between him and Cena might have caused some tension between him and his then-partner,Nikki Bella.

HowTrainwreckAlmost Wrecked John Cena’s Relationship
There are not a lot of people who will be A-okay with their partners getting intimate with someone else on the screen and Bella sure wasn’t. Talking to Conan O’Brien about the s*x scene, Cena stated,“It was awkward. And they wanted awkward, so we gave them awkward.”He also talked about how he broke the news about it to Bella, and let’s just say her reaction wasn’t 100% positive.
“Honestly, I didn’t think I’d get the part. And I kept putting it off not telling Nicole and not having the discussion of, ‘Hey, there may be some graphic scenes.’ So I got it and I couldn’t say no, so I kind of walked in one day and was like, ‘Hey, I’m kind of just doing this.’ And that was the wrong approach. She has such beautiful brown eyes and they glowed with red hellfire. She has such a great smile but she turned into like the alien and the predator at once.”
However, the disagreement didn’t last long between the two. Cena soon proposed to Bella in front of live television, at Wrestlemania 33 in April 2017. Unfortunately, the pair later broke up due to personal differences.
Trainwreckis available to stream on Peacock.
