Jada Pinkett Smith Had A Difficult Childhood

Jada Pinkett Smithgave an interview withPeoplemagazine, where she went into great detail about her childhood, her relationship with her parents, and things that she did because of this. The actress started by talking about how difficult her childhood was, growing up with parents who were drug addicts. She mentioned that, naturally, this had a big effect on her life and had a big influence in shaping who she is today.

“I had young parents and I had parents that were addicted to drugs and you know there is something to be siad when you aren’t the priority of your parents. Our parents are not responsible for our wholeness, but, just in regards to having the understanding that, you know, to be able to see that reflection inyour parents eyes. For them to be your mirror, as a young child. That your parents don’t have to be perfect, just always remind you that you are loveable and you’re worthy and it starts with being a priority.”

She mentioned that knowing the fact that she was not the first priority of her parents and the fact that she was not the thing that they loved the most in the world, was deeply confusing and distressing for her. This also includes the fact that she witnessed a lot of things that someone her age shouldn’t causing her to look at that as normal. This made her have a very warped image of herself, how she should be treated and treat herself, as well as the world around her.

Jada Pinkett Smith then went on to tellPeoplethat the flawed and failed relationship with her parents has shaped and influenced her life in a number of ways. She mentioned that not being a priority to her parents taught her not to be a priority to herself as well. She also added that this had her not create boundaries for herself.

“Then you really don’t know how to be a priority to yourself, you don’t know how to create health boundaries, to create healthy relationships.” she went on, “Not having that foundation, as I would come to find out, way into my adulthood, had some rally strong effects, in regards to how I saw myself.”

The actress then stated that this also made it difficult to create healthy relationships with others. These were things that she did not realize until very later on in her life when it was almost too late for her to blame her parents for this.
