In her memoir titledThe Princess Diarist,Carrie Fisher described the whole incident in great detail. In her memoir, the late actress stated how smartlyHarrison Fordplayed off the whole incident and Mark Hamill was none the wiser.
“Harrison, after letting Mark in, returned to the table we’d been sitting at, sat down across from me, took my hand, and pronounced solemnly, ‘We’re engaged’. It was hiding in plain sight, mocking the suggestion that there was anything going on; therefore, it couldn’t be true.”
This wasn’t the only incident that the couple had to play off cool since Harrison Ford was married during the time of his affair. Mark Hamill stated that it was good that he didn’t know about the affair between the two actors since it might have affected him.

Mark Hamill, who portrayed the character of Luke Skywalker was also romantically involved with Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia (in the movies only). In an interview, Hamill remarked that when he found out about the affair years later, it was good that he did not know at that time. The actor also had a pretty genuine reason for this since it would have ruined his character of Luke Skywalker.

Although the affair lasted three months, Carrie Fisher admitted in her memoir that she always wanted Harrison Ford to love her the way he loved a wife. The two actors were never married to each other and Carrie Fisher passed away in 2016.
