During his rare interview withDeadline, George Clooney revisited his memories of Matthew Perry and shared one of the biggest revelations from his time onFRIENDS. Discussing in detail the truth about Perry when the cameras weren’t rolling, Clooney mentioned knowing the actor from when he was 16.

“I knew Matt when he was 16 years old. We used to play paddle tennis together. He’s about 10 years younger than me. And he was a great, funny, funny, funny kid.”
George Clooneythen mentioned how Matthew Perry always dreamt of appearing in sitcoms. Disclosing how it was before Perry found his breakthrough withFRIENDS, Clooney mentioned that the actor believed being in sitcoms would make him the happiest person.

According to George Clooney, although Matthew Perry deeply desired to appear in a sitcom, he didn’t find happiness after landing the role of Chandler Bing onFRIENDS. “We were at Warner Brothers, we were there right next to each other — it was hard to watch because we didn’t know what was going through him. We just knew that he wasn’t happy and I had no idea he was doing what, 12 Vicodin a day and all the stuff he talked about, all that heartbreaking stuff.”
