Warnings: The following part may contain spoilers for the Dune trilogy
WhileDune 1is largely about Paul grappling with his reality and understanding the person he’s meant to be. Once his family becomes embroiled in a war for control over the galaxy’s most valuable asset, the prophesied messiah becomes troubled by visions of a dark future.
Meanwhile,Dune 2traces Paul’s rise to power with the help of Chani and the Fremen.“Part One is more of a contemplative movie. Part Two is an action-packed, epic, war movie,”Villeneuve toldThe Hollywood Reporter.
However,Dune: Messiahflips the script, and analyzes the theme of heroism vs psychopathy after Paul, the Emperor of the Known Universe, ends up with more power than a single man was ever meant to possess. In 1979, the author of theDunetrilogy said the series asks its readers to beware of heroes.
