Zack Snyder, the director who allegedly pressurized a studio to release the extended version of his movie, has a penchant for making director’s cuts. Since a 2-hour runtime is very little for the director to tell a story, Snyder believes in releasing two cuts of the same movie.

It is often the case that the director’s cut gets more fame and attention than the original movie since it is a deeper dive into the heart of the film. Well, Warner Bros. Discovery did not really allow that and with Zack Snyder’s departure, the300director is back for revenge with his upcoming magnum opusRebel Moon.
Zack Snyder Is Back With Vengence On His Mind
After his removal from Warner Bros. Discovery (formerly Warner Bros.) and the DCEU, fans rallied millions around the director to have the Snyder Cut released. A four-hour footage of Justice League that the world never got to see was eventually released and fans rejoiced atZack Snyder’s Justice League.

Well, Snyder broke all his ties with the DCEU from then and started focusing on his own projects. The one project that he had in mind was a space opera much likeStar Warsbut R-rated. And that is howRebel Moonwas born. The director is much excited about the release of his magnum opus but there is one more thing that he is even more ecstatic for. Having a penchant for a director’s cut, Snyder is planning to release a director’s cut as a sign of revolt against James Gunn and the DCU.
“With Netflix, we shot scenes just for the director’s cut. So in that way, it’s really a revelation because it gives that second kick at the can for big fans, like a real discovery that they would not [otherwise] get. I’m really excited about it!”

This seems to beZack Snyder’scoy remark to his former bosses who wouldn’t let him release a director’ cut. In an interview, Snyder also explained the reason why he loves his director’s cuts so much as it is essentially like going down a rabbit hole.

WithRebel Moonlooming up on the horizon, Snyder is quite excited about its release. Being one of his passion projects, theMan of Steeldirector essentially poured his heart and soul into making the movie. He couldn’t, however, help himself from making a director’s cut as he explained his reason in an interview with Polygon.

“I can’t help myself, I was always inspired by movies like Brazil. There’s a great history of director’s cuts. It’s like another movie to discover. There’s this other tug, rabbit holes, it’s amazing. For me, with my drawings, there ends up being a lot of that to tell a deeper-dive story. With director’s cuts I’ve done in the past, in a vacuum, it’s how the movie would exist. It’s part of my relationship with fans.”
Suffice it to say, alongside the director, the fans are also waiting eagerly for the R-rated (and the PG-13) space opera to release theatrically and on Netflix.Rebel Moonis currently set for a release date of 22nd December 2023.
