Tom Hanks Was Not Okay With American Actors Being Cast in British Roles
Peter Capaldi had suggested Tom Hanks’ name for the Thirteenth Doctor before Jodie Whittaker took over the role. Although the idea was good, Hanks could not accept the role because he was not a British actor. Despite having the ability to replicate the accent, he feared the fans’ response.
“So imagine the– imagine the cry if I had played world-famous– I would’ve played one of the Daleks, maybe. I would’ve been inside one of those big salt and pepper shakers talking in that automated voice– with an English accent, by the way.”

The actor did make a wise decision, concerning how the fans would react if a non-British actor took over such an iconic role. Similarly, getting an American actor for the role of another British character, James Bond would be a huge mistake.
