The actress had a discussion with Drew Barrymore about the messed up relationship she had with Teri Shields and how it affected her love life.

Brooke Shieldsrecently appeared onThe Drew Barrymore Showto talk about her documentary,Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.During the conversation,Drew Barrymoreand Shields had a moment where they bonded over the relationships they had with their mothers, which were complicated, to say the least.

Barrymore stated that growing up, she was so confused about her sxuality because her mother, Jaid Barrymore, would date her boyfriends. She asked if Shields ever experience that as well. However,The Blue Lagoonactress denied this stating that she was Teri Shields’ main focus. However, she did say that both of them decided to cut off from their sxuality.
“No, because she was in love with me. I was her main focus and both of us were gonna be cut off from our s*xuality. I was gonna stay a virgin. She was going to be just Teri Terrific and being there.”

Barrymore then added that she believes her mom was so“enamored”by her that she would want to be with her daughter’s former partners. Shields called this“layered…needy…sad and broken.”The two then addressed the fact that they were laughing about their mothers’ inappropriate behaviors.

Why Teri Shields Accompanied Brooke Shields to Interviews
Barrymore’s mother was also a momager and was in fact, inspired by Teri Shields. TheBlendedactress asked her guest why exactly was she accompanied by her mother for every interview she was ever a part of. Shields replied stating that it was her mother’s over-protectiveness of her and that she had a certain sense of ownership and fear toward her daughter.
“It was, ‘No one’s gonna get you. I’m gonna be there. I’m there first, you are mine. I’m not gonna give you to somebody’…Under the guise of protection. But it was more ownership and fear.”
Shields also talked about how at a young age, the only things she knew were to keep working, keep her mother alive, and buy stuff.
“You know, it was all I knew. You know what I mean? But we got stuff. It’s like I did a movie and we got a car. All I knew was, keep my mother alive, keep dancing, and get stuff.”
Shields added that despite all of this, something in her character didn’t let her emerge out of it angry or jaded. It’s not easy being this positive after everything she went through!
