The inspiration for many modern spy film tropes and the general structure of a spy film is courtesy of the iconic James Bond film series from the past. When people think about spies, the first image that comes to the general public’s mind is the suave, charming but equally adept master of reconnaissance and action.
For more than half a century, many stars have carried the legacy of the franchise on their shoulders to even greater heights, but none were able to do so like Daniel Craig. With his absolutely ruthless version of the British superspy, it was hard to imagine anyone could top that. But now, as Garth Ennis looks to take over a new Bond project, fans have their hopes up for something darker.
Garth Ennis Is Set To Take Over The New James Bond Comic Series
The only way to witness the greatness of the adventures of Agent 007 was to look forward to the upcoming or look at previous James Bond films or read the original novels. Depcited throughout the decades by different film industry legends, it was almost unreal to think that we might get the007franchise in any other form.
But now, reports have confirmed that the crusades of the British superspy will be brought to the world in the form of comics, and even more stunning is the news that comic book writerGarth Enniswould be helming the project.
In a recent announcement by Dynamite Entertainment, we saw the reveal of a new project titledYour Cold, Cold Heart,which would be helmed by Ennis. Most popular for his visceral and gritty comic book series likeThe BoysandPreacher,fans of the 007 series and comic book enthusiasts alike are looking forward to the upcoming serialization.
As for what went behind the idea and developing it into the upcoming project, Ennis said that he saw a large disparity between the characters from the film to the novels by Ian Fleming. In a recent press release (viaComicBook), he outlined what he wanted the character to look like through his take on the MI6 agent. He said:
“When I took a look at the Bond of the Fleming novels, as opposed to the larger-than-life figure from the movies, I saw a great deal more potential — a much darker character in a more interesting world,”
Known to bring the magic of unbridled violence and the barren reality of the world into his work, it will be exciting to see what the creator has in store for his take on James Bond.
Who Will Be The Next Bond?
With the release of 2021’sNo Time To Die,we saw Daniel Craig, arguably the best Bond leave the franchise for good. Thus, to continue his legacy as well as that of the franchise, Eon Productions is racing against time to find the next suitable candidate for the title of Agent 007.
So far, many credible names such as Henry Cavill, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, and Tom Hardy have popped up, but nothing substantial has been said about them. Apart from the stars, the production company has also been eyeing filmmakers to helm the next projects, and Christopher Nolan seems to be the top choice.
