The 73-year-old actress,Sigourney Weaverin the upcoming issue ofTotal Filmmagazine shared her thoughts on returning to theAlienfranchise, which established her as a prominent personality in the industry.

Regarding her return asEllen Ripleyin the sci-fi film series, she took a step back as she shared,

“There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role.”

She further continued

“And there was an Alien [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed.”

As per reports, Blomkamp was working on anAlienmovie, however, it was passed on by the 20th Century Fox. Back in 2020, she confirmed toEmpire Magazineabout receiving a 50-page treatment for“a different take on a fifth Ripley film”that was sent by franchise producer Walter Hill.

Even then, she had a pass on taking her role forward. The upcomingTotal Filmissue also featuredIndianaJones and the Dial of Destinyon the cover, which is also going to mark the end of another iconic character.

Lucasfilm’s anticipated film,Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinywill see Harrison Ford for the last time portraying his iconic titular character. Initially kicking off his archaeologist role in 1981’sRaiders of the Lost Ark,he kept on reprising his role to cement his character in the film industry.

Playing the iconic character that went through several adventures was“a joyous moment”for him as he told the outlet. Regarding ending his role, he shared,

“I think it’s a rare situation that I find myself in. I’ve been able to deliver amazing films developed by Steven [Spielberg] and George [Lucas] over a 40-year period, and to end it not with a whimper, but a bang, has been my greatest ambition for this excursion.”

The James Mangold-helmed film will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18 ahead of its US release on August 19, 2025.
