Appearing onThe Graham Norton Show,the Oscar-winning actor was asked about the story behind fans constantly asking him to say the word‘penguin’. To this, Cumberbatch laughed and revealed the hilarious story, saying,
“Well, apparently I got it wrong repeatedly in a documentary and now I’m completely terrified of the word. I don’t go near it.”
All this happened back in 2009 when Benedict Cumberbatch used to narrate for BBC documentary series. As the documentary gained more fame, saying the word‘penguin’turned out to be a bit too hard for the MCU star, judging how he couldn’t pronounce it even after repeated takes!

In the BBC documentary series that went viral thanks to the actor, Benedict Cumberbatch can be seen pronouncing‘penguin’incorrectly again and again. Calling theDoctor Strangeactor out on his hilariously silly mistake,Graham Nortonplayed the documentary on the show, in which Cumberbatch can be heard saying,
“And the last thing you might expect to see here… is ‘Penwings’. These are Fiordland Crested ‘Penwings’ named after this corner of South New Zealand. So why are these woodlands so attractive to ‘Penlings’? A freshwater stream makes a handy highway for a parent ‘Penwing’ heading home from a fishing trip.”
Judging by how he just couldn’t get the word right, no doubt fans have been piling up with requests to make Benedict Cumberbatch attempt to say‘penguin’live once again!
