However, a movie that did not get as much recognition and got an exact opposite response of what Villeneuve would have liked wasBlade Runner 2049.The director revealed during the press tour forDunehow theBlade Runnersequel was not the best decision he made.

The director revealed that he was already aware of the risk he was taking while filming the movie and how it was a step into his career’s grave. He admitted that he was surprised that his career is still intact regardless of the mistakes he made by filming and releasingBlade Runner 2049.

Denis Villeneuveknew that makingBlade Runner 2049could very well be career suicide for him. He was aware of the fact that it could be easily considered an artistic crime and yet he went forward with the idea and made the movie anyways. He admitted to thinking of it as a miracle that his career was still an ongoing success even after the movie’s conflicting reviews.
“Just the fact that I’m still here making movies, for me…at least I wasn’t banned from the filmmaker community. It was a dangerous game.”

He stated that he was surprised as to how he still was able to direct and film movies without any consequences after he made the sequel. The movie ended up making less than half of what the original budget had been. The box office revenue forBlade Runner 2049had been of mere $100 Million while the total budget had been around $300 Million. The movie though is still regarded by those who liked it, saying that the pacing was perfect. Unfortunately, the box office could not make up the revenue that the fans’ responses would make one believe.

Even after the doubt that Denis Villeneuve had aboutBlade Runner 2049,the director still managed to bring Frank Herbert’s novels to life.Dunebrought to life Paul and Chani’s stories with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, alongside a massive cast including Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, and many others. The movie gained massive success and its sequel is about to be released as well.
The director did not expect to stand and promote his movie let alone be able to continue his career. Now the sequel to another successful movie is underway.
