Before delivering one of the best Batman performances on the big screen, Robert Pattinson had to find his footing by playing a dark and brooding vampire during his initial days in Hollywood. But garnering the first major break in his career could have gone quite tricky, as during the audition process, Pattinson revealed that he wasn’t in the perfect frame of mind.
However, following the requirements for the role, things eventually worked out for the actor, as he later explained the whole incident that lead him to getting the role of the angsty vampire inTwilight.

Robert Pattinson wasn’t in the best frame of mind while auditioning forTwilight
Over the years,Robert Pattinsonhas cemented himself as one of the best actors of our time by working on more Indie projects and garnered immense appreciation for his work in those films. But despite the actor’s immense talent, his confidence wasn’t always high, especially during his younger days in the industry, and theTenetstar initially developed“this absolute terror of auditions”.
In order to deal with this situation, before hisTwilightaudition, Pattinson would take anti-anxiety medication (valium). And considering his state of mind at the time, he was assured that he was going to lose the role, but fortunately, that wasn’t the case and the actor being high eventually benefited his audition. Pattinson said,
“I had never taken a Valium before… I just remember feeling so glorious in the back of the taxi with the window open and being like, ‘Wow, this is what I’ve been missing.’ I think I had this quite spacey, detached kind of thing in the audition, which must have worked for the character.”
Although the actor did secure the role, which would push him to stardom, he would have to face another challenge with the studio, as they weren’t on board with his vision for the character.

Studios weren’t initially on board with Robert Pattinson’s take on Edward Cullen
Although Robert Pattinson’s emo and brooding portrayal of Edward Cullen feels like a precursor to his transformation into Batman, the studios were reportedly not in line with Pattinson’s vision for Cullen. According toThe Batmanstar, following the success of other teen love stories, they wanted him to portray a more bright and happy version of the character but that didn’t sit right with Pattinson. While speaking with GQ,The Lighthousestar explained the whole situation by stating,
“I wanted to make it as arty as possible… We had this strange tension where the studio was scared to make things a little bit too emo and stuff. I thought that was the only way to play it. I spent so much time [on set] infuriated… I can’t believe the way I was acting half the time.”

But despite the initial interferences from studios, Robert Pattinson was allowed to portray a more emo vampire, which would start his rise in the industry and eventually become The Dark Knight.
