Actress Ruby Barker recently blasted Netflix’sBridgertonstating that the conditions on the set and the fame from the show led to her having “two psychotic breaks.” The actress, who played Marina Thompson in the show, has criticized Netflix for not giving any support. Produced by Shondaland,Bridgerton‘s first season aired on Netflix in December 2020 while the second episode was released in March 2022. In the first season, Barker had a main role and for the second season, she got a guest role.

Given how her mental health deteriorated during the first season, it makes sense why she only got a guest role in the second season. The role of Marina Thompson gave Barker fame overnight, making it hard for her to keep up.

Ruby Barker blasted Netflix’sBridgerton
British actress Ruby Barker recently appeared on Oxford University’sLOAF Podcastand opened up about her experience of working in Netflix’sBridgerton. The actress recalled that she suffered from two psychotic breaks because of the show and no one from Netflix came forward to support her,
“Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland since I have had two psychotic breaks from that show have even contacted me or even emailed me to ask if I’m OK, or if I would benefit from any sort of aftercare or support. Nobody.”

Barker played the main role of Marina Thompson inBridgerton‘s first season. In the second season, she had a guest role.

Filming the show was a tough experience for Ruby Barker
Rudy Barker further explained that she was deteriorating while filming the show as she also suffered from mental health issues that made things difficult for her,
“During filming, I was deteriorating. It was a really tormenting place for me to be because my character was very alienated, very ostracized, on her own under these horrible circumstances.”

In 2022, the actress was hospitalized due to mental health reasons. She stated at the time that she had been “really unwell for a really long time” and she had “all this intergenerational trauma bundled up inside” her. The fame from the show was quite overwhelming for the budding actress but as of now, she has been focused on her future projects.
