In a first, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Zampino sat down to discuss their relationship in an interview on the popular podcastRed Table Talks. While things have turned out to be way better now, both accepted that their relationship started on the wrong foot.

It was a remarkable moment whenJada Pinkett SmithandWill Smith‘s ex-wifeSheree Zampinosat down together and talked about their gradual enemies-to-friends relationship. Smith accepted that their relationship hadn’t been smooth since the beginning and they had hit numerous rough patches over the years. Despite it all, they had grown to respect each other and developed an unusual relationship cum friendship.
While they have always appeared to be one big family, Smith accepted she never did understand marriage or even divorce.
“I didn’t understand divorce. I will say that I probably should have fell back.”
She also admitted to Zampino that because she was so naive, she didn’t understand divorce and thought that Will Smith and Sheree Zampino’s divorce meant that their relationship was completely done.
“When Will and I first started dating, I had this thing in mind. I was like, ‘Well you did that, and that’s done.’ ”
The realization that their relationship was not done and that they continued to maintain contact for the sake of their son Trey was devastating to Pinkett since she didn’t know how to go on from there. Fortunately, motherhood and co-parenting allowed them to reach a middle ground.

Co-Parenting Allowed Jada Pinkett Smith And Sheree Zampino To Connect
Jada Pinkett Smith and Sheree Zampino had a rough beginning since it involved Zampino and Will Smith’s son Trey. But over the years, their love for Trey and motherly instinct helped them connect and respect each other. During the talk, Zampino mentioned at one point,
“And I’ll tell you: On this side of things, my son could not have a better bonus mom.”
She even mentioned that the way Smith treated her son helped her realize that Jada Smith wasn’t a bad person.
“That was a turning point, because I did see your heart with Trey. I did see that you loved this kid, you really did. And I saw a woman who was doing the very best she could.”
In return, Pinkett added that Zampino was a formative force in her life. The heart-to-heart conversation between the two helped break barriers and notions that step-families cannot have a budding relationship.
