How to Make Phone Ring Instead of Just Vibrate

Wondering why your phone is just vibrating and not ringing? Well, this could be happening becausesilent modealong with vibration or just the vibration mode must be enabled on your Android or iPhone. You must turn off these modes and switch to the regular sound mode to turn the ringer back on. Let’s check the steps to make your Android or iPhone ring instead of just vibrating.

If your iPhone is just vibrating instead of ringing, you must have enabledsilent modeon it. Basically, Apple offers a feature on iPhone where you’re able to make it vibrate in silent mode. You mustturn off the silent mode on your iPhoneto turn the ringer back on.

Essentially, all iPhones come with a physical silent button that lets you put it on silent. You must have accidentally turned it on and that’s why your iPhone must be only vibrating instead of ringing. Therefore, look for the Silent button on the left side of your iPhone. If you see an orange line inside the button, it means silent mode is enabled on your iPhone. Push the button upwards towards the screen of your iPhone to turn off silent mode. That’s it. Your iPhone will start ringing for incoming calls.

Now whether you want to make your iPhone vibrate or not vibrate for incoming calls depends on your settings. If you want to enable or disable vibration in ring mode, go toiPhone Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Turn off the toggle next toPlay Haptics in Ring modeto turn off the vibration. Similarly, use thePlay Haptics in Silent Modetoggle to choose whether your iPhone should vibrate in silent mode or not.

If your Android phone only vibrates but doesn’t ring, you need to turn off the vibration mode on your phone. There are three ways to do so.

Method 1: Turn off the Vibration Mode on Android Phone

To turn off the vibration sound profile on your Android phone, follow these steps:

1.Press the Volume Up or Down button on your Android phone.

  1. A volume slider will show up with a vibrate or bell icon at the top. If there’s a vibrate icon, that means your phone is on vibrate mode and that’s why it’s not ringing. Tap on this icon and select the Bell icon. Do not select the Bell icon with a bar on it as it will put your phone on silent mode.

That’s it. You have turned off the vibration mode on your Android phone.

Tip:If theSound modesdo not appear on the volume slider, you must check the Quick Settings panel and turn off the vibration mode.

Method 2: Turn off Automatic Enabling of Vibration Mode

In case your Android phone keeps switching back to vibration mode where the phone doesn’t ring, there are chances that theringing shortcutis enabled on your phone. Basically, if you press the Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time on some Android phones, it will automatically put your phone on vibrate. You must disable this shortcut as shown below:

1. OpenSettingson your Android phone.

  1. Go toSound and Vibrationand turn off the toggle next toShortcut to prevent ringing.

Method 3: Change Ringtone

Typically, the above two methods should help you in turning the ringer back on. However, if your phone continues to vibrate only instead of ringing, you should check the ringtone settings.

1. On your Android phone, go toSettings.

  1. Tap onSound and Vibrationfollowed byPhone ringtone.

  2. First, ensure a ringtone is selected instead of the None option. Secondly, try changing the ringtone to a different one. It could be that the ringtone that you are using has some problem and that’s why your Android phone doesn’t have an audible ringtone. Press theSavebutton after choosing a different ringtone.

Samsung Galaxy phones offer three sound profiles: Sound, Vibrate, and Mute. If the Vibrate profile is selected, your phone will only vibrate and not ring. So you mustswitch back to the sound modeas shown in the two methods below.

Method 1: From Settings

1.Open Settings on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

  1. Go toSounds and Vibration.

3.You will see the sound profiles at the top. SelectSoundfrom the list of Sound, Vibrate, and Mute.

Method 2: From Volume Slider or Quick Settings

The three sound profiles can be quickly accessed from the Volume slider as well as from Quick Settings of your Samsung Galaxy phone. That means you can turn off the vibration mode from these places too as shown in the following steps:

  1. Press theVolume Up or Downbutton of your phone.

2.When the Volume slider shows up, tap on theSpeaker icon with a bar on itto disable vibration mode and enable the normal sound profile where your phone will ring and vibrate instead of just vibrating.

  1. Alternatively, open the Quick Settings panel by swiping down twice on your phone. Then, tap on theVibratetile twice until you see the Sound mentioned on the tile.
