How to Download Images From Google Docs

Downloading images from websites is a simple task, just right-click on it and click download, unless you try downloading an image from a Google Docs. Sometimes Google decides to make simple things much harder likedeleting a photo on Google Photos without losing it in local storage.You won’t find any download option when you right-click on the image in Google Docs. But there are a few workarounds to do it, let’s check it out.

Download Images From Google Docs

Whether you are on the phone or desktop, you can simply take a screenshot and crop out the image. But the quality of the image will be limited. So if you are looking to download images without compromising on quality, here are the ways to do it.

1. Save to Google Keep

Open the Google Docs that has the image you wish to download on a computer browser.Select the image and right-click itto open the context menu. Now,select the option “Save to Keep”.

It will open a small Google Keep interface and your image will show up here. You can simplyright-click the image in the right pane to download it.

2. By Publishing the Doc to the Web

Another way to download an image from Google docs is by publishing it to the web. Open the Doc that has the image,click on File in the menubar at the top > publish to the web.

Click the Publish buttonin the pop-up. I would recommend you to NOT use this method if your document has private and sensitive information. Remember to stop publishing it once you have downloaded your desired images.

Open the generated link anddownload the image by right-clicking and saving it to your computer.

Publishing the doc to web

After you’re done, you’re able to now stop publishing so that people don’t get unauthorized access to the doc. Go toFile > Publish to Web > Published content and settingsandclick on Stop Publishing.

3. Save It as an HTML

If you have multiple images in Google Docs then saving the Doc as an HTML file is a great way to download all the images in bulk.Open the doc, click on file > Download > Web Page (HTML).

A zip archive will automatically download on your computer. Extract the file and you will find a folder titled, images.

The images folder contains all the images from the Google doc and are automatically downloaded into this folder.

4. Use Image Extractor Add-on

Open any doc in Google Docs. In the top menu,click add-ons > Get add-ons.

Search for Image Extractor and Remover and Install the Add-on to Google Docs.

After installing, click on Add-on again > Image Extractor and Remover > Don’t Remove but Save to Drive. It will save the images to the Google Drive linked with your account.

You can navigate to Google Drive and download the image from there.

5. Request Desktop Version on Phone

This is the only way to download images from Google Docs on the phone. Open the browser on your smartphone,open Google Docs, request desktop siteoption from the menu. Now, use any of the 4 methods mentioned above.

The only caveat being, you cannot open the Google Docs on the browser when you have installed Google Docs app. So you either need to uninstall the app or open the Docs in the incognito mode.

Wrapping Up

It is quite weird that a small option like saving Image is missing in the Google Docs. While most people suggest to just take a screenshot and crop it, that will decrease the quality of the image drastically to the point that it can’t be usable anymore.
