The Witcherseries first aired on Netflix in 2019. Based on the short stories,The Last WishandSword of Destiny, actor Henry Cavill played the iconic character of Geralt of Rivia. The actor played the role for three seasons and finally, he has announced that he is wrapping up his time on the show after the third season.

With the fourth season planned, a new prequel spin-off calledThe Ratsis also under production on the side. There are no official announcements as of now, but it seems like the filming of the show was wrapped up sooner than expected.

Since November 2022, rumors about a new prequel spin-off calledThe Ratsin The Witcher universe have been spreading like wildfire. There are still no confirmations about the release date, however, sources have confirmed that the filming of the show has ended.

The filming of the show was initially planned to occur between April and September 2023, however, it started in May and ended by the end of June. Fans are now wondering if the creators decided to give the fans half of what was initially planned.

The show was supposed to be an 8-episode series

The spin-off series was initially planned to consist of 8 episodes, but that was before the shooting dates of the show were moved. It is possible to shoot 8 episodes in 5 months, however, filming 8 episodes in 2 months seems impossible. Fans now suspect that they will only receive 3-4 episodes.

The shooting took place in Cape Town and the cast of the show includes some big Hollywood stars like Ben Radcliffe, Christelle Elwin, Fabian McCallum, Aggy K. Adams, Juliette Alexandra, and Connor Crawford.

Liam Hemsworth replaced Henry Cavill

In October 2022, Netflix announced thatThe Witcherhas been renewed for a season 4 as well as a season 5. However, in the next season, Geralt of Rivia will be portrayed by actor Liam Hemsworth. Henry Cavill played the role for three seasons and after wrapping up season 3, he will exit the franchise.

Thanks to his outstanding performance, the show received positive reviews and was praised for its faithful adaptation of the source material. Cavill’s exit disappointed many fans and left many worrying about the future of the franchise. The actor’s performance popularised the show and helped in building a solid fan base.
