OnePlus has rolled out latest versions of beta OxygenOS for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5t. Besides bringing changes in user interface and adding new accent colors, support for Project Treble is theheadlining featureof the new update.
Project Trebleis a Google’s initiative to resolve one of the most common problems faced by Android devices – slower updates. While Apple announced in the WWDC 2018 thatiOS 12, the latest iOS version, would run even on older devices including iPhone 5s, many Android devices are still running on archaic Android versions such as Lollipop, Marshmallow, and KitKat.
With Project Treble, this period of waiting to get newer Android versions will be considerably reduced, and users can expect faster updates. It also reduces the hard work manufacturers have to put in to make Android updates compatible with their devices.
OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5t are the first OnePlus devices to embrace Project Treble. Last year OnePlus said that their devices would not support Project Treble, but it seems that they have tripped over their stance.
The post also added “As this build supports Project Treble, if you are not running Open Beta 12 for OnePlus 5 and Open Beta 10 for OnePlus 5T, make sure you flash the builds before updating. If not, you should clear all data and cache from recovery before flashing the latest build.”
OnePlus’ latest model OnePlus 6 already supports Project Treble, and the China-based company will soon release the stable versions of OxygenOS that would feature the project.
