The Flashhas been the talk of Hollywood for quite a while all thanks to the lead star, Ezra Miller who kept on being in the spotlight amid their controversies, which quite marketed the film. However, the film is not able to catch up with the titular hero’s speed in its theatrical run which is now close to a worse situation than Dwayne Johnson’sBlack Adam.

The opening weekend is not proving happy for Warner Bros asThe Flashhas performed below expectations at the box office. Ithad been expected to earn $70-75 million in its opening weekend. But it grossed $24.5 million on its first day at the box office, which includes its Thursday night previews. The industry specialists have suggested estimates for the film with a 3-day around $60 million in its opening weekend.

From the looks of it, this figure is quite below the $67 million 3-day or $71.5 million 4-day opening which was earned by DCEU’sBlack Adam. Despite havingDwayne Johnsonin the titular superhero role, the film was an ultimate box-office bomb that grossed only $393 million worldwide against a $200 million-plus production budget before marketing.

Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, Ben Affleck, and Michael Keaton, it was quite a promising project. Keaton reprising his Batman role was one of the factors that further hyped up the project but the box office numbers are far from promising.

It also received critical praise for its plot, action sequences, humor, and performances which further escalated the hopes of it performing well in the opening weekend. Not to mention, DC Studios co-CEO, James Gunn, overpraised the project by stating it as“one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
The box office numbers seem to be contradicting his statement. As for why the film is struggling to perform better in theatres, it seems to have something to do with lead star,Ezra Millerwho has been embroiled in a series of controversies, which unintentionally drawn negative attention to the film. However, the film is also getting criticism for visual effects which further affected its theatrical run.
The Flashis available in theatres now.
