While the next game’s release is still far away, Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt of Rivia has reflected upon his connection with the character and made it clear that he wants to voice Geralt for life whether it be inThe Witcher 4or any other game in The Witcher franchise.

Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle wants to reprise his role in The Witcher 4

CD Projekt Red announcedThe Witcher 4back in March 2022 and later in October, the developer stated that the game is pre-production and would start a new saga for the franchise that will be a part of the“AAA RPG”trilogy. However, nothing more has been known officially about the game since then. Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt of Rivia has now spoken about his love for the character and stated that he wants to voice the character forever if CDPR lets him.

In a recent interview withIGN, Doug Cockle showed his eagerness to voice Geralt and although he does not know what’s going at CD Projekt Red regardingThe Witcher 4, he looks forward to voicing the character whether it is the next mainline entry or even a remake. Cockle stated:

Cockle also looks forward to voicing Geralt in The Witcher Remake since he is the original voice actor.

I would love to just keep voicing Geralt until I can no longer voice anymore. It’s just become such a part of me. I’m thrilled every time CD Projekt calls me up and says, ‘Hey, Doug, are you available for such and such?’ And my heart does a little flutter and leaps, and I go, ‘Yes, of course I am,’ because I love it so much.

Cockle stated that his relationship with the developer is such that he doesn’t work for them but with them. He added that he doesn’t know what’s going on internally in terms ofWitcher 4orThe Witcher Remakebut he loves it when the developers call him for work. Cockle also mentioned that he does not have very close relations with many developers and those he knows are indie developers. He said:

Helldivers 2: How to Kill Tanks

I don’t have as close a relationship with many other developers, and a lot of the other developers who I know fairly well are indie developers so they’re much smaller in scale in terms of what they’re doing and everything else.

I have a lot of respect for CD Projekt Red. I don’t work for them, I work with them. So I sit a little bit on the outside of the company itself. I’m like a satellite that kind of spins around the inner workings of the company, which I know nothing about, and every once in a while, they call me in and I come in and do a little thing, and then I go back into my orbit. But they’re absolutely lovely.

For those unaware, CDPR released a project roadmap in October 2022 and mentionedThe Witcher RemakecodenamedCanis Majoris. The remake has been described as a“fully-fledged, AAA, story-driven RPG.”taking place inThe Witcheruniverse and will follow Geralt’s first adventure. The remake will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 using the same tools asWitcher 4.

Cockle stated that he is very excited aboutThe Witcher Remakeas he recorded the voice for the original game back in 2005 and since the game will now be developed using Unreal Engine 5 he is excited about the graphical advancements that the developers will be able to do with it. Cockle has also voiced other characters in games likeBaldur’s Gate 3andAlan Wake 2but it is understandable why nothing comes close to the iconic role of Geralt.

It can be said for certain when the nextWitchergame will be released but Cockle is hopeful about voicing the character in future games even if the franchise is going to move away from the character. Recently the game director forThe Witcher 4, Sebastian Kalemba stated that the series will move forward with the established continuity but will be developed to allow new players to get into the franchise.

It is also being said that the next game will not revolve around Geralt and he might appear briefly and the Ciri will be taking the titular role. However, nothing has been confirmed so far from the developers so it is recommended to take this with a pinch of salt. CDPR reportedly has more than half of its developers working on the nextWitchergame so it can expected that the game will look to surpass the standards set byThe Witcher 3.
