Activision has been takingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’smarketing to the next level with real-life zombies. Before the game arrives on multiple platforms, Activision Blizzard decided to take things to the NFL football game instead.

The actors did a phenomenal job at recreating the ‘zombies’ experience at SoFi Stadium.

The Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium witnessed a ‘zombie apocalypse’ that was orchestrated in promotion ofCall of Duty Zombies, which will see a return in the next game of the franchise.

How Activision Orchestrated the Living Undead in Real Life

In careful collaboration with the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, Activision Blizzard planned an actual zombie infestation that not only looked spectacular but was spooky enough to give you jump scares if you weren’t paying close attention to these ‘actors.’ Obviously, this captivated a lot of attention and a fascination for the popular mode ofCall of Duty Zombiesmaking its return inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

In thevideo, you can spot actors dressed as the undead walking around SoFi Stadium. They even go close to the camera, entering the camera room and getting extremely close to the staff members and people ‘behind the screen.’

Zombies Mode will Return in COD MW3.

This was a great move by Activision that blends in-game zombie encounters with lifelike scares that make you question how people would actually deal with a zombie infestation. Especially in a place like a stadium?

SoFi Stadium isn’t new to such stunts. Earlier in 2023, viewers could spot AI robots that were linked to the promotion ofThe Creator.According to an article byReuters, certain actors in makeup appeared to be variants of lifelike AI robots.

Operation Deadbolt will ask players to stop Viktor Zakhaev, the antagonist fromCall of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), who is responsible for creating the outbreak of zombies using Aetherium. The game’s character, Kate Laswell, will lead the operation alongside Soap (Johnny MacTavish).

The blog describes the studio’s vision enthusiastically:

For the first time in Call of Duty® history, Zombies is coming to the Modern Warfare® universe in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Developed by Treyarch in collaboration with Sledgehammer Games and High Moon Studios, Modern Warfare Zombies is a signature cooperative experience that challenges players to team up with other squads to survive and fight massive hordes of the undead in the largest Call of Duty Zombies map ever.

According to Activision’sblog post, this version ofCall of Duty Zombieswill include the living as well as the undead that pose a threat from Terminus Outcomes, a private military organisation hired by Zakhaev.

As mentioned above, instead of the round-based gameplay that players are familiar with, this version ofCall of Duty Zombieswill have an open-world experience that combines PvE extraction and survival-horror traits. It is a little similar toOutbreak, where different regions on the map cater to different challenges and difficulty levels.

Regardless of these new changes, the gameplay loop will stay true to the traditional zombie experience that fans have adored through differentCall of Dutygames.
