After months of teasing, producer Jon Landau finally confirmed that a sequel ofAlita: Battle Angelis in the works. As fans know, Landau has expressed his desire to work on this sequel before as well duringAvatar: The Way of Water‘s premiere. Although he hinted that the live-action movie might return to the screens soon back then, it is only recently, in an interview that he gave the confirmation.

Allegedly,Alitawould not only come equipped with the technological advancements ofAvatar: The Way of Waterbut will also be made on a big budget. As such, fans of the manga and the live-action both are over the moon with this news.

Noting their overwhelming success in theAvatarfranchise,Jon Landaumentioned,“I think what we’ve learned from Avatar is how much more facial nuance and subtlety that we can get into characters that we want to be emotional and emote that are humanoid.”And this is the exact formula they have utilized and will use again inAlita‘s sequel.As Landau explained,

“Alita would not have been possible, but for what we did on Avatar. Avatar: The Way of Water would not be what it is but what we did for Alita. And now let’s put that back and give it back to Alita.”

Thankfully, it seems that Jon Landau, James Cameron, and the original movie’s director Robert Rodriguez, are all returning for the project.

Landau noted,“We’re talking to Robert [Rodriguez, who directed the original] and talking to Rosa [Salazar, who portrayed Alita] and all is good.”This inevitably made the fans campaigning for it extremely hopeful about experiencing their favorite character going on adventures on the big screen.
