When Is It Coming
The AirTag took the market by storm and you will many people have an AirTag in their backpacks, keychains, and even cars these days. It simply works. The original AirTags were launched in 2021 and based on rumors, AirTag 2 will launch sometime next year in mid-2025. There is no official word from Apple yet. Let’s take a look at the design, specs, and feature updates we can expect from the AirTag 2.
Users have several complaints about the original AirTag’s battery. Here they are in no particular order.
One common complaint is that the battery is easy to access. Parents are concerned their kids can easily open the AirTag while playing with the keys for example. Batteries can be dangerous leading to health issues and hazards. Apple may change the lock/unlock mechanism on the back making it harder to open.
We expect Apple will improve the battery life making the AirTag 2 last an entire year. Currently, based on your usage, it lasts less than that. Again, many users arenot happy with AirTag’s battery life. It is not uncommon for users to facebattery woes after replacing the battery.
Note:Apple AirTags are fitted with CR2032 battery. Apple has anofficial guideon how to replace them.
We expect the AirTag 2 to have a thinner profile and may be smaller in size. However, Apple will continue with the circular design, which is a hit with users.
Vision Pro
Apple released the Vision Pro some time ago but the hype has since then died down. We thought it was weird that the name had Pro in it even though it was the first gen device. Apple is now preparing to launch a cheaper version of Vision Pro and most probably will call it just Vision.
Ming-Chi Kuo, a popular Apple analyst, says Apple will be integrating AirTag with the Vision Pro headset. Maybe you will be able to see a map of your items in 3D. Not very helpful unless you are wearing that thing around in public while traveling but pretty cool nonetheless.
Ultra Wideband Chip
The iPhone series came with a 2nd generation Ultra Wideband Chip which suggests that the next-gen of AirTags may also see a new ultra-wideband chip. In simpler terms, better location accuracy and tracking of AirTags.
